In the fall of 2018 District Attorney Jim O’Neill started the Susan Frye District Attorney Treatment Alternative Program to assist individuals struggling from addiction as part of the opioid pandemic. The program offered intensive treatment with wrap around services to aid individuals struggling with addictions that drove their criminal activity. The program focused on individuals with heroin, opioid, and alcohol addiction. Programs were expanded in 2019 to include individuals battling addictions to other substances such as cocaine and methamphetamine. Individuals who successfully complete the program may receive a reduction or dismissal in their criminal charges.
The Susan Frye DATA program is a partnership between the District Attorney’s Office and Forsyth County that seeks to save lives and reduce crime. This partnership is aided by the Forsyth County Detention Center, Probation and Parole, ARCA, Insight, and countless other community partners that step up to provide services to initiate change and recovery.
There have been many success stories from those individuals who embraced the program and have achieved sobriety. They have regained employment, had Drivers Licenses restored, reestablished family connections, regained custody of children, started businesses, and most importantly stayed clean. The ripple effects of these successes strengthen families and the community as a whole.
